Cycling will be the central theme in June thanks to the international cycling conference Velo-city. A real bike festival will be organised for local residents and visitors. The highlight will be a mass bike ride through the inner city!

Velo-festival

From 18 to 21 June, more than 1,400 representatives from over 60 countries will gather in 't Kuipke and Floraliënhal for the Velo-city conference. Numerous cycling activities will be organised for local residents and visitors as well. Throughout the month of June, there will be lots of events for cycling enthusiasts, ranging from exhibitions and repair cafés to graffiti and bike rides. 

Bike parade

Do you like cycling? Then the Bike Parade is definitely your cup of tea! Together with the conference participants and thousands of other cycling enthusiasts, you can go for a 10-km bike ride through the city. Along the way, you can enjoy all sorts of street entertainment. The event is concluded with a live music performance. 

Practical information

  • There is no need to register.
  • Start: participants come together from 6.30 pm onwards at Kuipke (Jan Hoetplein 1 – 9000 Ghent), the starting shot is given at 7 pm.
  • Finish: around 8 pm at Vrijdagmarkt square.
  • Route: the 10-km route has flat and uphill/downhill sections. You cross Louisa d’Havébrug bridge and cycle along Portus Ganda and through the Oude Dokken neighbourhood.

Velo-festival

Throughout the month of June, the programme will include lots of activities such as bike repair workshops, bike exhibitions, a 200-kilometre bike ride on the trail of the very first Tour of Flanders and lots more.

Are you driving to Ghent? First check whether you may enter the city centre with your vehicle. Clean vehicles may enter the city centre free of charge, polluting vehicles have to pay. Is your vehicle allowed to enter, but do you not have a Belgian or Dutch number plate? You will ALWAYS have to register!
